Lead in Emergency Response
4. Georgia must be the best prepared state in the nation for natural disaster and emergency management responses affecting agriculture.
When disaster strikes, GDA professionals provide leadership in a wide range of areas including communications, fuel supply logistics, companion animal and equine care, plus response to over 17,000 licensed food sales establishments statewide. My commitment to superior preparation and response is unwavering.
Natural disasters and future attempts to compromise the critical infrastructure of our food supply require that we continue to prepare equip and train. Weather events are certain. Radiological or foreign animal disease events introduced by an enemy are real threats that we must consider. We must be wise. Wisdom instructs us to prepare. If we are prepared, we will Make Life Better for every Georgian in very real ways. Public health and the economy demand that we take this responsibility seriously.
